Regional Biennial Convention
Posted on November 13, 2008Our Biennial Convention was held at the Renaissance Hotel in Boca Raton, FL, November 6-9, 2008. Over 100 synagogue lay leaders and professionals came together for seminars, workshops and a wonderful Shabbat experience. The convention was preceded by a Kallah of the Southeast Region Rabbinical Assembly and on Thursday evening, our two groups shared a joint gala installation banquet at Beth Ahm Israel, home synagogue of our new regional president, Robert Salamon. Rabbi Sam Kieffer, of B’nai Aviv in Weston was installed as president of the Southeast Region Rabbinical Assembly.

One of the highlights of the convention was a video made especially for us by Capt. Ed Mallow, president of Beth Shalom in Jacksonville, FL. Ed is with the United States Navy Judge Advocate General Corps stationed at Al Assad Air Base in Iraq. Ed and Rabbi Jon Cutler, the base chaplain, made the video and sent it to us to show at convention. In it they describe Jewish life in Iraq today and the situation of Jews in the military in Iraq.
